Type Species |
(MpV-SP1) |
Viruses assigned to this genus probably have a common genome structure and infect the same marine alga Micromonas pusilla (strain UTEX 991, Plymouth 27). The particles are tail-less polyhedral particles which range from 104 to 118 nm in diameter. The viruses are ubiquitous in sea water throughout the world, and have been isolated from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and the Gulf of Mexico. The abundance of these viruses in natural samples is variable and ranges from < 20 to 1
104 per ml.
